Installation Instructions
& Suggestions

The Space Age Mat Lamp is the only illumination needed at a match. It is most effective to have all other lights turned off. This may seem dark at first but spotlighting the mat concentrates interest on the event. Additional border lights may be needed according to preference, you will still get a focused effect. The important thing is to center the attention on the mat, not the crowd.

Some coaches feel that some light escapes to the crowd. You may cover the beveled side of the reflector with dark tape and shed all light to the mat. If ever you feel you need more light, you may take off the lens and substitute bulb MP 400 slant BU with the condom. The bulb can be purchased from your local G.E. dealer. Most people feel this bulb is too bright for a wrestling match without the reflector lens.

Suggestions

  1. Center a Pulley (not provided) directly over the mat or area that is to be illuminated and another directly over the Electric Winch. Mount the Cord Reel next to the pulley. Locate a convenient location to mount the Electric Winch (preferably as close to the pushbutton switch as possible). Mount the Push Button switch in the desired location.
  2. Use the Twist Lock connector to connect the Cord Reel to the Mat Lamp. Connect the Electric Winch to the Mat Lamp using a wire rope (not provided) suitable for carrying the load (5/6” wire rope (cable) is recommended which matches the wire rope in the winch).
  3. Connect Cable Reel and Electric Winch to a 115 volt source (the 115 Volt source should be wired by a qualified licensed electrician).
  4. Determine the height of the unit for best lighting for your size of wrestling area. 12-15 feet is generally appropriate. Raising or lowering the unit will dim or brighten the mat area. The lamp can be lifted to the ceiling when not in use. It is advised that the mat lamp be taken down and stored between matches. The lens and optical assembly will not withstand the punishment of basketballs, volleyballs, etc. Make sure to hang a 10 - 15Lb weight on the hook when removing the mat lamp, this will avoid tangling the spool.
